Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has refused to criticise referee Victor Gomes over a potential foul in the build-up to Yusuf Maart’s match-winning goal for Kaizer Chiefs in Saturday’s Soweto derby.

Kaizer Chiefs claimed bragging rights over bitter rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday after recording a narrow 1-0 win at the FNB Stadium, courtesy of a wonder-goal from Yusuf Maart who netted with a long-ranged effort from inside his own half.

Maart's goal has gone down as an early contender for the Goal of the Season award but questions were raised over a potential foul in the build-up after Khama Billiat appeared to have bundled Orlando Pirates midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo off the ball.

Buccaneers coach Jose Riveiro appeared to have been disappointed by the call but refused to criticise match referee Victor Gomes for his decision not to blow his whistle and bring the play back for a foul.

"I have my opinion about that, obviously, but I am not going to complain," the Spaniard told the media.

"I think the role of the referee is the most difficult thing to do in this business. I think it's so difficult, they have to make decisions in a split second.

"Sometimes the decisions are in our favour and sometimes they go in the other direction, but I think at the end of the season, those decisions are usually in balance. We cannot complain about the referee, I think he did a good job.

"The last time we played, the level of the referee in my opinion, in Polokwane (against Mamelodi Sundowns) was super good. So, I have my opinion but it’s not going to change the result. You can see the picture, you can see the action and you will have your own opinion as well."
